Spoken Word is a fun opportunity to infuse design into our story telling. The approach is visually engaging and fun experience due to its boldness in nature: the fonts have attitude, each letter with its own personality, much like each individual player on the Pelicans’ roster. Every detail appears as though it were hand draw and hand animated. What’s more, the Pelican colors of navy blue, red, and gold could not be a better color combination for this lively concept, a perfect palette to allow typography to pop, twist, wiggle, and explode across the screen.
From a cinematic standpoint, Spoken Word is an opportunity to show the true Pelicans. By showing B-role footage of the athletes, the outtakes of them laughing or joking with one another off camera, we’re able to convey who these players are beyond the game, thus establishing a connection between the Fans and the players. After all, Spoken Word is for the fans.
